How do I find, add and update chemical inventory (container) data?
To search for a container record, first sign in to EMS. Then navigate to the “Inventory” tab on the left side menu. Here you will see another menu populate where you choose “Container“, the search form should look like this:
You can use any combination of these fields to search for the container that you are looking for, fields with a buttons will auto-populate suggestions from data that is already entered in the system.
You can also simply click the search button to find all container records in EMS.
Once you finish choosing your criteria, click “Search”.
EMS will list a summary of all container records (if any) that the search found:
When you find the record you want to update, click the button in the farthest right column of the record to view it.
To update a container record, sign in to EMS and navigate to the Inventory option on the left side of your screen, then choose Container from the menu that pops up. Select Edit in the upper right hand corner.
The fields that are required will be highlighted in pink.
Update all pertinent information and then click the Save button.
To create a new location record or records, as needed, select the Add button and follow the same steps as above.
Please note: when adding a container record you must choose both the location and the material from existing data by either entering the first few letters of the location/material and letting the program autofill, or using the button at the end of those fields.
Notice that fields that are highlighted in pink are required and the record cannot be saved unless you enter information in them.
How do I find, view, and print a Chemical Reference record?
After logging in, you will see a menu bar on the left side of the screen. Please note that the contents of this menu will vary depending on which product you are working with, but it will resemble this:
To search and view a Chemical Reference record select Chemical/(M)SDS on the left side then Chemical Reference second from the top of the menu that will populate to the right:
Here you have the option to search for a Chemical Reference record based on any of these fields:
Fields with at the end allow you to look up already entered data as search criteria. To select a record select the button in the far right column of the record. Or if you find the chemical name that you want the Chemical Reference record for you can also choose the button and the record will populate:

By using the Records button one can add, clone, edit, delete, save, cancel, or refresh a record. There is also a help tool located here.
The Navigate button allows the user to search, set boundary, sort, set toggle browse, show all, and move back and forth through records.
Lastly the Actions button allows you to look up labels associate with this records as well as sort via hazard class, merge references, import regulations, and search on eChemPortal for a record.
