The US Department of Labor has opened up public comments on OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program, which recognizes organizations that demonstrate the best safety and health management practices in the workplace. The program has been successful in promoting safety measures in many industries, but the increase in program applicants has made it difficult for OSHA to ensure the quality of safety and health management systems. The public and safety stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on how the program can be modernized and enhanced to align with current occupational safety and health management practices and system standards. OSHA is seeking input on various issues, including expanding the use of safety and health management systems, and special categories of hazards that need attention in the VPP certification process. The deadline for submitting comments is April 14, 2023.
