The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) management field continues to grow as an essential service for organizations concerned with various operational and technology-based goals. EHS management systems not only support environmental responsibility and regulatory compliance but also enhance workplace efficiency and safety.
The Verdantix 2025 Green Quadrant report[1] recently outlined the top priorities of over 300 senior EHS executives regarding their EHS software. One-third of the executives said their top priority in using an EHS system is reducing serious injuries and fatalities within their workforce. Other top operational priorities included improving contractor management and visibility, integrating worker health and wellness into EHS programs, and enhancing the organization’s monitoring of EHS regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
Some technology-based benefits of an EHS system include implementing leading indicator metrics and proactive management to anticipate risks, real-time data collection that enables organizations to act more quickly, and the ability to continue looking forward toward future risk reduction initiatives (such as the implementation of AI).
If any of these capabilities align with your organization’s goals, it might be time to invest in EHS software.
The Green Quadrant surveys asked their respondents to identify the criteria that were most influential when they selected their EHS software. Verdantix also tracked the trends in these factors over time to project which ones will remain prominent in the future.
When selecting your EHS system, these are several key features to keep in mind:
The ability to use the EHS software through both desktop and mobile app interfaces was the top factor in the respondents’ decisions. This feature helps employees engage with the software and enter larger quantities of data. Customers have consistently valued this feature, as it has been the top priority for many years, and is predicted to remain so.
The second most prominent factor for buyers is the total cost of ownership. The third highest ranking factor, which 14% of respondents consider the most important, is the platform’s architecture and scalability. This is becoming increasingly sought after as organizations expand their use of EHS systems.
When selecting an EHS system, ask if a potential provider can fulfill your organization’s unique needs, and if the provider is suitable for your firm’s size and scale.
Chemical Safety Software’s customizable interface makes it uniquely suited to fulfill a wide range of the priorities and organizational needs mentioned above.
CSS’s mobile interface provides employees with easy access to documents, including safety data sheets, chemical inventories, and GHS labels, through a user-friendly mobile application. Additionally, CSS’s software is arranged into modules, allowing your organization to save money by only purchasing the modules that you need. Finally, CSS’s completely customizable interface tailors the system to your unique organization and scale (companies of all sizes can leverage CSS’s software capabilities).
